Mission Statement
Supporting Iranian, Afghan, Tajik, and Georgian Immigrants in Canada
Our initiative is dedicated to supporting Iranian, Afghan, Tajik, and Georgian immigrants in Canada who share a common language and cultural background. Our goal is to empower these communities to successfully integrate into Canadian society, while also preserving their rich cultural identities.
Education and Awareness
- Provide immigrants with information about their rights, Canadian laws, culture, and the wide range of community resources available to them.
- Offer culturally sensitive education to help individuals navigate Canadian society with confidence and independence.
Personal Growth and Empowerment
- Encourage self-improvement by promoting values such as personal responsibility, gratitude, and critical thinking.
- Foster a sense of self-worth and purpose, enabling individuals to contribute meaningfully to their communities.
Health and Wellness Support
- Offer education and support on physical and mental health issues, particularly those affecting newcomers (e.g., adjustment disorders, PTSD, anxiety, depression, and immigration-related stress).
- Help immigrants build resilience and self-confidence, transitioning from feeling “like a fish out of water” to adapting and thriving “like a turtle in a new environment.”
Access to Community and Legal Resources
- Provide information about essential services such as shelters for abuse survivors, legal aid, child protection services (e.g., CAS), affordable medication programs, and peer support groups.
- Ensure newcomers are aware of their rights and have the tools to access necessary assistance when needed.
Societal Integration and Contribution
- Empower individuals to become active, self-sufficient members of society, reducing long-term dependence on social services.
- Promote participation in civic life through education, employment, and community engagement.
Promoting Cross-Cultural Understanding
To build a more inclusive society, we aim to bridge the gap between new immigrants and the broader
Canadian community:
Cultural Exchange and Education
- Educate Canadians about Persian culture, including historical and geographical traditions, to foster mutual respect and appreciation.
- Organize activities and initiatives that promote cultural understanding and dialogue.
Building Connections through Commonalities
- Highlight shared human values and everyday habits to create stronger bonds between immigrants and native-born Canadians.
- Leverage cultural similarities to build friendships and a sense of community.
Celebrating Diversity
- Showcase positive cultural differences that enrich Canadian society.
- Promote respect, acceptance, and kindness as foundational values for all communities.
Addressing Cultural Misunderstandings
Many immigrants come from societies where Western values and lifestyles have been portrayed negatively, often shaped by experiences of violence and oppression. Our goal is to:
- Help dismantle misconceptions about Western culture by fostering open dialogue and understanding.
- Encourage peaceful conflict resolution, emotional expression, and mutual respect over violence or suppression.
- Support the transition of newcomers into Canadian life so they can genuinely view Canada as their new home.
Long-Term Impact
By supporting immigrant families during their transition, we aim to:
- Prevent second-generation children from experiencing cultural confusion and identity struggles.
- Help immigrant parents raise their children in a balanced way, avoiding the feeling of being torn between two cultures.
- Ensure effective integration into Canadian multicultural society, reducing feelings of alienation and enhancing community cohesion.
Through education, empowerment, cultural exchange, and support, we can build a stronger, more
inclusive Canada—where newcomers are not just surviving, but thriving.
